Print Quality of Web Images
The images shown on this website are intentionally degraded to reduce their density to enable speedier page loading.
In fact, on average the originals are around 1300 times more dense than the images you see here.
We shoot all events in what's called Digital RAW Format so our originals that are sent to the Digital Printer are always around 95MB. The difference between what you see here and what we provide in our prints is quite stunning and diasarming.
No labs (except for 3 or 4) in Australia can handle images of the density, size and quality of our photographic paper prints.
Buy a Small A4 Print First To Allow Us To Prove What We Say Is True
The quality of the photographic prints produced by www.australianflora.com.au is the absolute best money can buy. Kodak, the manufacturer of the photographic paper we use estimates the image life to be 75 years. See more. The print quality is vastly superior to that produced by consumer digital cameras, colour inkjet printers and retail mini labs. As the digital image size of most of our pictures is around 70MB - that's right, 70MB - most labs can't handle them, let alone produce the quality that we demand.
We use the Durst Lambda 130 Digital Colour Imager which produces full continuous tone - a 36-bit color space to ensure ultimate color fidelity (68 billion colours)

The Printing Equipment
And just to ensure that all that high priced equipment is not compromised by poor image processing, all www.australianflora.com.au prints are processed on a Durst Lambda 130 Plus Large-Format Digital Laser Imager that features full continuous tone in a 36-bit color space to ensure ultimate color fidelity (68 billion colours) and 4000 dpi apparent resolution with no visible dots. Don't compare this printer to a 4000 dpi inkjet as this printer produces "continuous tone". There is a lot more to all this but we won't go into it here.
This is an evolution in imaging to unsurpassed large-format quality: Straight from a digital file, the Durst Lambda 130 can print any creation directly onto photographic media.
The Durst Lambda 130 combines the advantages of classical silver halide photography with the potential of the latest laser and digital technology, without an intermediate film stage - and without the compromises of CMYK output. This new technology offers superior color saturation and fidelity, better image quality, more details and sharper type than other alternatives. It also provides a number of advantages over conventional enlargements, including improved image quality with no image distortion and no loss of image sharpness and perfect edge to edge sharpness and evenness. The Durst Lambda 130 operates with a full 36-bit RGB color space (68 billion colours) to ensure excellent control over the light source and to produce faithful color reproductions.
